LOADSTAR Library V7.3
by Dave Moorman
Well -- it has taken us several
swats to finally make contact. Now the
ball is flying out of the stadium!
LS Lib V7.3 can now search the
complete LOADSTAR data base from just
one program. It works much like its
predecessors, but considerably faster
than V6 and before.
When you boot LS Lib V7.3, the
main menu offers:
1. Search by Program
2. Search by Author
3. Search by Category
These are identical to previous
versions. Click, cursor/return, or
press the number key to select. Type
in a string and hit <RETURN>. The
search is [not] case sensitive and
will match letters anywhere in the
data base strings.
4. Search by Issue/All
We had to combine these two
functions. To go through the data
base, entry by entry, issue by issue,
(All), type in <0> and press <RETURN>.
By the way, if you type one digit
(e.g., 3), each issue with that digit
in its number will display each item.
Of course, you can press <Q> to quit
any search when you have seen enough.
5. Set Search Range
Here is where you can move between
data files and search the entire
library. Each file is numbers with its
first and last issue -- such as
[LSL.001-031].
We pulled all the data out of the
previous versions and converted
everything to PETASCII. Now we will be
able to re-edit the files and fix some
old omissions, unify syntax, and
generally polish up the whole system.
6. Destination SCREEN
Flip between SCREEN, DEVICE 4, and
DEVICE 5 for your output.
One way to organize a list of
programs to print out is to go through
and Mark all desired entries. Then
switch the Destination to your
printer, and Search by Category for
"Marked Files". Your selected list
will be sent to the printer.
Thanks to a timely letter from
Stephen Beigle, we were able to
improve the print-out. It is decidedly
80-column, 66 line, tractor feed.
7. Exit and Disk
Here is your way out -- to LOADSTAR
or Basic. LOAD FILE DATA is exactly
the same as 5 above. You can also
return to the Library if you are not
ready to quit.
Every two or three months, we will
publish an update of the current LSL.*
file. When the file reaches capacity,
you will get a new update of LS Lib
V7.* as well, which will automatically
load the latest data file on boot.
Your response and comments on
LOADSTAR Library V7.3 are desired and
appreciated. I can even handle a
[little] criticism!
